CINNAMINSON, N.J. – For the ninth consecutive year, the Cinnaminson Fire Department presented checks to charities that support breast cancer awareness.
These funds were raised by the CFD through various fundraising events that were held in September and October of this year. Half of the proceeds were donated to Virtua Hospital’s Tyanna Barre O’Brien Breast Care Comfort Fund, which helps local breast cancer patients obtain items that are not covered by insurance or readily available without financial assistance. Our partnership with this foundation started in our first year with the help of our business administrator Jean Dietrick, who herself is a breast cancer survivor.
The other half of the proceeds were donated to the Rebecca A. Scott Memorial Scholarship Fund. This fund helps local paramedics obtain scholarships to assist with expensive training costs. Rebecca “Becky” Scott was a paramedic with Virtua who often worked with our members at emergency scenes. Unfortunately, Becky passed away from breast and liver cancer at the young age of 28.
A formal presentation was held on Monday, November 18th at the Cinnaminson Fire Station 201. Members of the CFD, Virtua and the Scott family were present.

CINNAMINSON, N.J. –
The Cinnaminson Fire Department provides numerous services to the residents and businesses of Cinnaminson Township, among which is fire extinguisher training.
To assist us in this effort, Sea Box will be donating a state-of-the-art electronic fire extinguisher training system that will increase our ability to provide this training to our community. This
system allows us to simulate fires in various areas of a workplace, including industrial and office settings. Using this equipment employees can be taught the various types and stages of fires and how to use a fire extinguisher, as well as make a decision not to do so. In addition, we will be able to train other municipal employees and the public.
A formal presentation and demonstration will be held on Thursday, September 26th, at 1:30 pm at the Sea Box Complex, located at 1 Sea Box Drive off of Unionlanding Road, in Cinnaminson,
New Jersey. After the presentation a demonstration will be provided as well as the opportunity for members of the press to utilize the equipment. Opportunities for photo ops as well as interviews with all of those involved will be provided.

CINNAMINSON, N.J. –
The Board of Fire Commissioners of both the Beverly City and Cinnaminson Fire Districts announce that beginning immediately, the Cinnaminson Fire Marshal’s Office will be responsible for enforcement of the New Jersey Uniform Fire Safety Act in Beverly City.
This agreement means that the Cinnaminson Fire Marshal will conduct routine fire safety inspections of all buildings with the exception of owner occupied one- and two-family dwellings,
provide public education programs and investigate fires in Beverly City. “We are always talking about reducing overhead and consolidating services to save tax dollars but very few agencies do anything about it”, stated Joseph Congemi, Chairman of the Cinnaminson Board of Fire Commissioners. “Today proves that it can be done. Working with our collogues in Beverly City this arrangement will allow for local fire code enforcement while capitalizing on a regional approach.” “We are extremely excited about this partnership and look forward to ensuring that our residents, businesses and visitors are kept safe from the ravages of fire through this program”, stated Kevin Mickle, Chairman, Beverly City Board of Fire Commissioners.
Mickle further stated “We are relatively small compared to Cinnaminson. With just a handful of inspections that need to be done compared to the hundreds that Cinnaminson conducts annually, it only made sense to enter into this agreement. It will lower our costs and provide Cinnaminson with some non-tax revenue.” This is a win win for the taxpayers of both communities”, stated William Kramer, Jr., Cinnaminson’s Fire District Administrator.

CINNAMINSON, N.J. –
The Cinnaminson Fire Department is extremely proud of one of its employees who helped to deliver a baby while on vacation.
Fire Lieutenant Philip Drangula of Florence, New Jersey, was camping with his family at the Baker’s Acres Camp Ground in Little Egg Harbor, when he was notified that a woman was not
feeling well. Drangula, a career Fire Lieutenant/EMT with the Cinnaminson Fire Department and a part-time EMT with Gloucester County EMS, quickly determined that the woman was about to deliver a baby. Assisted by a Sheriff’s Officer who was also vacationing at the camp grounds, the two prepared for the delivery while awaiting local EMS from the Parkertown
Volunteer Fire Company.
As Frank Runzo, Chief of the Parkertown Volunteer Fire Company arrived, the baby was in the process of being delivered. The parents and baby are extremely lucky that Drangula and the others were present as the umbilical cord was wrapped twice around the baby’s neck. Once delivered, they all worked together to remove the cord and got the baby breathing.
According to Chief Runzo, baby and mother are both doing well.
“As an employer, we are extremely proud of Lieutenant Drangula”, stated Frank Ellison, Chairman of the Cinnaminson Board of Fire Commissioners. William Kramer, Jr., Chief of the Cinnaminson Fire Department stated, “Emergency services workers are never off duty. They are always prepared to jump into action whenever and wherever an emergency occurs. The actions of Lieutenant Drangula and the Sheriff’s Officer over the Labor Day weekend prove that and they are all to be commended”.

CINNAMINSON, N.J. – The Cinnaminson Fire Department is proud to announce the kick-off of this year’s “Paint the Town Pink” fundraising campaign. This will be the eighth year that our department will be raising funds and awareness for breast cancer. Each year, we have been able to top the previous year’s total of funds raised. Last year, we were able to hit our goal of raising $10,000. This year, our goal is an ambitious $12,000.
The funds raised through our efforts go towards two local foundations that we have supported for many years. The first foundation is Virtua’s Tyanna Barre O’Brien Breast Care Comfort Fund, which helps local breast cancer patients obtain items that are not readily available without financial assistance. Our partnership with this foundation started in our first year with the help of our business administrator Jean Dietrick, who herself is a breast cancer survivor. For our third year in a row, we will also be helping the Rebecca A.
To reach our goal of $12,000, we are reaching out to our residents and business community for assistance. Without the support from our wonderful community, we would not be able to provide each of these foundations with the funds needed to help those in need. As has been done in past years, we will have a variety of items for sale including shirts, hats, and birdhouses. We will also be holding numerous events starting with our second annual Family Fun Day on September 22nd and concluding with our Kid Safe Trick-or-Treat Night on Halloween.

CINNAMINSON, N.J. – The members of the Cinnaminson Fire Department are proud to announce that with the support of residents and businesses, we were able to donate $10,000 for the fight against breast cancer.
Lead by members of a Committee of the Department, a number events were held starting in September, including a Family Fun Day at the fire station, a Paint the Town Pick paint party, a Movie Night at the Fire Station, and a Dine and Donate at Sweetwater Inn. In addition, the department sold Tee shirts, pink light bulbs, wooly caps, bows and pins.
“Our members are extremely committed to this event. Besides all of the time these men and women commit to the community through weekly training sessions, meetings, and emergency responses, it is amazing that they spend many additional hours planning for and sponsoring the fundraisers to support this campaign” stated William Kramer, Jr., Chief of the Department. “I couldn’t be more proud”.
Lieutenant James Clancy, Co-Chair of the Committee stated “We set a goal to exceed last year’s campaign. We not only beat it, we smashed it”. The committee worked extremely hard and spent hundreds of hours on this campaign. At the end it is all worth it when we present the checks to the charities we support”.
Those charities are the Virtua Breast Cancer Women’s Comfort Fund and the Rebecca A. Scott Memorial Scholarship Fund. The Virtua Breast Care Comfort Fund help patients obtain items that insurance may not cover. During this year’s presentation a local patient that has been able to benefit from the funds raised was present to thank the members and explain how the fund has helped her through her trying time.
The funds donated to the Rebecca A. Scott Memorial Scholarship Fund will help local paramedic students gain scholarships for their training. Partnered with Rowan College at Burlington County, the scholarship fund is helping local paramedic students gain the best training available. This check was presented to the family of Paramedic Rebecca Scott, who passed away at the age of 28 to breast cancer.
“With the amazing continued support of the Cinnaminson community we are setting next year’s goal even higher”, stated Cinnaminson Fire Department Jean Dietrick, a breast cancer survivor herself.

Last year was our most successful year, raising $8,600. This year, our goal is to raise at least $10,000.
The funds raised will go towards two foundations that are near and dear to our members. The first foundation is Virtua’s Tyanna Barre O’Brien Breast Care Comfort Fund, which helps breast cancer patients obtain items not readily available to them without financial assistance. CINNAMINSON, N.J. – Working with the New Jersey Forest Fire Service and the Joint Base McGuire-Dix-Lakehurst, the Cinnaminson Fire Department was able to obtain a Fire Safety House Trailer that had been listed as “surplus” equipment by the Federal Government.
The Fire Safety House Trailer will be used as a tool to teach children how to react to fires in the home. It has a smoke generation system that uses safe theatrical smoke to give the children a sense of what they would encounter should there be a fire in their home.
In addition, the trailer can be used to teach electrical, cooking, and fireplace safety utilizing various props.
Chief of Department William Kramer, Jr., stated “We are always looking for ways to increase the services we provide at the lowest cost possible. We have been extremely successful with grants and now have utilized the Federal Surplus Property system to obtain this very valuable fire safety tool. I am extremely excited.”
“It is amazing to see what the officer’s staff and members of this department are capable of. They are always thinking outside of the box for ways to save money and increase services. All Cinnaminson residents should be very proud of them. I know the Board of Fire Commissioners certainly is”, commented Frank Ellison, Chairman of the Board of Fire Commissioners.
Fire Marshal Danny Norman stated “This is a piece of public education equipment that has the ability to ensure that kids can experience smoke, in a safe environment, instead of just trying to imagine it. We are going to make very good use of this trailer at all major community events.”
While the program requires the NJ Forrest Fire Service to retain ownership of the trailer for one year and make it available to the department through a Shared Services Agreement, after one year it will be permanently turned over to the Cinnaminson Fire Department.
Below are pictures of the inside and outside of the unit.

CINNAMINSON, N.J. – Four volunteer members of the Cinnaminson Fire Department successfully passed formal training courses and obtained statewide certifications.
Three members, Mathew Geiger, who is also a firefighter, Tracy Kilmer, who is a fire code official, and Lee Schroeder also a firefighter, recently completed almost 50 hours of training and passed a state recognized examination which included written and practical components, and earned the certification of Emergency Medical Responder. This certification is valid for a two year period. During the two years these individuals will be required to attend formal training sessions presented by the department, be independently evaluated each year by the department’s medical director as all of our EMT’s and EMR’s are required to do to demonstrate competency, and then successfully pass a 40 hour training program to recertify.
While all three stated that the course was challenging they also stated that they look forward to being able to provide basic first aid to residents in need. These members will be teamed up with members of the department who are EMT’s to respond to critical emergency medical calls including heart attacks, trouble breathing, bleeding and overdoses. All three can perform CPR, use an automated external defibrillator, and administer aspirin, narcan and epinephrine.
Another volunteer member, Bob Nikoo, recently completed over 90 hours of classroom and practical instruction in the New Jersey Division of Fire Safety’s initial fire safety inspector course. In addition, Bob passed a rigorous state administered written examination to earn certification as a Fire Inspector. This qualifies him to enforce the very complex state fire safety codes. This certification is valid for a three year period during which time he will need to complete over 20 hours of state approved continuing education training in order to recertify.
Most people do not realize the time commitment and dedication that our members go through to be able to provide such vital services to the community.
“Pound for pound members of the Cinnaminson Fire Department are among the most highly trained emergency services providers available”, stated Fire Chief William Kramer, Jr.
Those interested in joining the “Team that makes a Difference” are encouraged to apply by visiting our website at www.cinnaminsonfire.org.

CINNAMINSON, N.J. – For the second consecutive year the Cinnaminson Fire Department has been selected to be the subject of a painting that depicts firefighters in action. Last year’s painting titled “The View” and this year titled “Enemy of Fire” use Cinnaminson fire apparatus, firefighters and civilians as the subjects of the painting, both shown here.
In the past thirty-six years, the artist, Joseph Getsinger, a retired New Jersey State Trooper who spent a number of years assigned to the Arson Bomb Unit, has created a large number of paintings to support burn victims and survivors for the Burn Foundation. Last year it was a view from the cab of a fire truck or second truck in. This year was a creative battle in the mind of the artist because he wanted to do something he hadn’t seen any other artist do. This year is the view from the fire within the residence.
You are the fire, rolling across the ceiling towards the door to get more oxygen to grow faster. At the door you see two strange looking and strangely dressed humans driving you back with a stream of liquid that can reduce you in size and kill you. It is the “Enemy of Fire” that is coming after you. A firefighter is seen in this image aiming a stream of water towards his enemy supported by another firefighter and the crew. The Fire Chief is communicating with his crew while the engineer is controlling the flow of water for the firefighters on the front line. This painting took two full months of work from the artist referring to pics from the photoshoot and putting his own artistic license to the image, such as adding the detail to the stained glass and beveled windows to this image and the fire above.
The department sells raffle tickets for a canvas print or 25 non-canvas prints to the winner. Tickets are also sold at the New Jersey State Firemen’s Convention in Wildwood. All of the proceeds benefit the Burn Foundation.
To view other paintings as well as those available for sale visit the artist’s website, www.jgetsingerarts.com.
The Cinnaminson Fire Department is honored to be part of this extremely worthwhile endeavor and thanks everyone who purchased a raffle ticket in support of the Burn Foundation.
Who knows maybe 2017 will be a trifecta. Stay tuned.

IMMEDIATE RELEASE
August 17, 2016
CINNAMINSON, N.J. – During the month of July, 2016 there were three fires in town where the fire department was not notified. The first was a fire that resulted in significant damage to a kitchen. The second was a propane grill on a deck that extended to the house and resulted in an injury to an occupant. The third was a fan in the ceiling of a commercial building.
While the fire department was eventually notified, in two cases the following day and the third a few hours after, we need to be notified immediately.
Residents and occupants that attempt to combat a fire are usually not successful. This leads to a delay in notification to the other occupants of the building, placing them in danger; a delay in the notification to the fire department, which results in a larger fire upon arrival and additional dangers to the firefighters; and significant exposure for serious injury to the person(s) attempting to fight the fire.
WHEN A FIRE OCCURS, WE STRONGLY ENCOURAGE YOU TO NOTIFY ALL OCCUPANTS TO EVACUATE THE BUILDING, AND ONCE OUTSIDE, CALL 911.
No one should feel embarrassed to call for help. As fire doubles its size every 60 seconds, every minute counts.
Please make sure that you have working smoke and carbon monoxide alarms outside each sleeping area of your home. Change alarm batteries twice a year when you change the time. Test the alarms monthly, and if they are over 10 years old, replace them.
For assistance in obtaining smoke alarms or installing them, please contact us at 856-829-5220 during normal business hours.
