Carbon Monoxide Notice

NEW JERSEY ADOPTS NEW REQUIREMENTS FOR THE INSTALLATION OF CARBON MONOXIDE DETECTORS

Based on a law, known as the Korman Parks Law (P.L. 2015, c. 146), the New Jersey Division of Fire Safety/State Fire Marshal has adopted regulations to implement this law.

With the exception of buildings equipped with carbon monoxide detection required when the building was constructed, all occupancies will be required to install carbon monoxide alarms under the New Jersey Fire Code (N.J.A.C. 5:70-4.3(a),
N.J.A.C. 5:70-4.9(d) and N.J.A.C 5:70-4.19(d).

The fire code contains specific requirements for the installation and maintenance of carbon monoxide alarms which are required to be enforced by the Cinnaminson Bureau of Fire Prevention. As all occupancies are required to be inspected by the Cinnaminson Fire Marshal at least annually, building owners should expect that a Notice of Violation will be issued during that inspection requiring the installation of carbon monoxide detectors. This violation is the required method of notification to building owners that will contain a timeframe for compliance. That timeframe is typically 30 days but may be extended based on specific issues.

At this point we are making notification of this new requirement. We suggest that you do not install carbon monoxide alarms until the Fire Marshal visits your business and explains the requirements for your specific building and its configuration.

If you have any questions please contact the Cinnaminson Bureau of Fire Prevention at 856-829-5220.
