2018 New Jersey Firemen's Weekend

Six members of the Cinnaminson Fire Department recently attended classes at the National Fire Academy in Emmitsburg, Maryland. The six members included volunteer and career firefighters and company officers. Each member completed sixteen hours of training at the annual New Jersey Weekend at the fire academy.

The members reported to the academy on Friday June 8 for an orientation. After checking in and attending the orientation, the members used the remainder of the day to meet other firefighters and fire officers from throughout New Jersey. It was a great experience meeting other first responders from different parts of the state and seeing how they operate in their departments.

The classes were held Saturday and Sunday. Three of the members attended Strategy and Tactics for the Initial Company Officer. This class was designed for current and future company level officers. The students worked with other firefighters and fire officers from the state to learn techniques on managing and operating at a fire incident.

The other three members attended Fire Investigation for First Responders. The students in this class trained on the role of the firefighter in fire investigation. Each class had a test at the end that our members all passed.

On Saturday evening after the first day of classes, the members attended a memorial ceremony honoring the Line of Duty Deaths in New Jersey. The names of the New Jersey firefighters that died in the Line of Duty in 2017 were read. All other past New Jersey Line of Duty Deaths were remembered and honored as well. Lieutenants Clancy and Staples participated in the ceremony by providing first responders with flowers to leave at the National Fallen Firefighters Memorial to honor those that have made the ultimate sacrifice.

After completing the courses, the members returned home Sunday evening. These members will now pass on the training they received to other members of the department. The members will also be able to contact other firefighters and fire officers they met this past weekend for other training or operational needs. The Cinnaminson Fire Department is proud to send members to this training opportunity every year.
